What a year it’s been for new veg grower Alison!
The first-timer has gone from nothing to a greenhouse bursting with tomatoes, an explosion of crisp salad leaves and forest of young leeks.
Strawberries are happy in a hanging basket, courgettes in a raised bed.
Alison is helped in her Hoo garden by Master Gardener Tony Newcombe.
Her tremendous tomato harvest is being turned into passata as well as tomato chutney, and there are still bowlfuls coming in from the garden. There are sprouts, destined for Christmas dinner, and cabbages too.
Alison has been keeping a journal of her growing journey, which she illustrates with pictures of her garden. Next steps are getting into composting – she has chosen her site for a bin, and planting green manures to keep the fertility of the soil.
It’s been a great year – and who knows what next season will bring!
