Master Gardener Jacquie and co-ordinator Liza joined in the fun at Riverside Children’s Centre, Rainham for the weekly outdoor session, Muddy Mondays.
Come rain or shine, the families enjoy a play and a catch-up in the open air. As well as making mud pies and running about, the children were keen to have a go at sowing seeds.
Jacquie had brought along peas and seeds and a jar stuffed with healthy sprouted seeds. Parents learned about what can be grown quickly and easily indoors when it’s chilly outside. Sprouts and pea shoots add some welcome crunch and freshness in the winter and are delicious as well as nutritious.
Lots of the parents took away factsheets on how to get sprouting and growing at home. The younger members got down to sowing dried peas to take home for their own windowsills.
One mum was so keen she is signing up as one of our supported households, and will get a year’s free growing advice from a Master Gardener and a free growing pack.
